Or, May Be That Is What I Meant, After All

the sound became myself to prove
there for being where for breath
a voice in which to answer love
the voice heard closest until death
knowing holds me to a sleep
& holds me closer when I dream
a voice so lovely dark & deep
it teases be apart from seem
& my voice will sing to me of choices
my voice will call to me for years
my voice will sound like other voices
my voice will banish other fears
it dares me face my always fears
it makes me roam wet streets at night
if I get back, alone, as morning nears
I just might hear it sing tonight
though it fasts still silence rarely loses
a second nature hard to break
of such habit as it joyful chooses
the sweetest human voice to take
I once thought brave would sing of losses
thought only I made my mistakes
I now instead use other voices
whatever love requires takes
