Power To The People, From Whom All Power Flows
Or, Video Of That Fleeting Glimpse Half Remembered From Childhood
“If you put your ear to the turf that is stolen,
You can hear the sound of limitations exploding”
— Boots Riley
i like to watch from up high on the fringes,
laugh facing down all your fear,
pay attention as power unhinges
at what it alone cannot hear:
the People, God bless them, keep trying
to do what nobody’s done —
once you find out about all the lying —
— why not something new under this Sun?
The Sun that, we were told, went around us,
— executed if we didn’t agree —
even though, with or without us,
with one look at the Sun — one could see —
Facts in the end proved Them wrong,
but They' kill to pretend to be right;
They’d’ve killed even this little song,
if They’d’ve thought to get me in the fight
— but me, i’ve got Them in my sights
sneak back round when They wouldn’t expect it —
For all those robbed of their rights,
for all the humans left broken, neglected,
for almost for ever i've waited
(because actions are words educated)
(because our doom is not scripted or fated)
(because denial is way overrated):
What if it wasn't too late?
What if greed wasn't innate?
If we all lost our taste for self hate,
found our ways to — cooperate —
O brave future we all would create.
